i wouldn't call this album a failure at all. it's a debut record that has a few stumbles - in fact, ossify was one of my favourite tracks from last year.

Its very obvious that John Haughm was the driving force of the sound Agalloch had. I like Don's other project, Sculptured, but this just isn't that good sadly.

you say that, but there's a lot of agalloch-sounding moments here and at least this record had ambition. the pillorian record by comparison just sounded so safe, there was virtually no scope to it that i would expect from a 'visionary' *cough* that was in agalloch.

I think 2 of the metal injection writers had long write-ups about how this was their album of the year. I just don't see it, I don't think this is that good but I only listened to it twice. I have no desire to go back to it again.

I’m digging it. Def not amazing but I like it, kinda reminds me of like a Paradise Lost and Ved Buens Ende mashup. Hopefully the next album is a bit better but I’m pleased with this. Feel like it can be a grower.

i think i'm very close to a 3.5, yeah. with such a unique sound i'm not surprised they didn't nail it the first time but there's a lot here to like.

Yeah Pillorian's album didn't have that large breadth of sound like Agalloch did, but I think it was more set out to be a more black metal focused record. That being said I think it has tons of memorable moments, and is very well constructed. The lyrics are even stronger if not just as strong as Agallochs. Anyways yeah its also the safest record ever, while Salt is Khorada biting off a bit more than they could chew. It's not that I don't respect the effort or like where they tried to take things, it just fell a bit flat to me. Ill listen to this again though.

i was really excited for this album, seeing as it was essentially 90% agalloch members but man, everytime i try to jam this i'm so put off by the muddy production and bad vocals.
