Okay...so, if your implying Deafheaven make music others aren't, you are SERIOUSLY under a rock. My whole first paragraph is about how there's people who truly believe Deafheaven are doing something new for music simply because they're doing something new for them personally. But they're at best a gateway band, and my argument was the fans aren't even actually going through the gate, instead they just think this is a pinnacle of genres with no return.
My whole argument is it's not and this obsession is hype, because there are so many other artists doing Deafheaven's meld so much better in the grand scheme of '[making] music others aren't.'
Also, Deafheaven on the same level as Death Grips...no.

This happens with all "gateway bands".

Yeah no butthurt about the score this album is maybe a 2.5 and this review still reads like a 12 year old's book report

I just cited your DG review because to this day I still don't understand what you said in that sentence mate. That phrasing kills me..
As for Deafhaven I got no idead. Never managed to sit through one of their records and get through the layers of hype context and cheesiness you must probably overcome to appreciate it. Maybe I'll listen to them in a bunch of years but as is... nah.
On the subject of gateway bands on wich people seem to get stuck on. My belief is that just like discovering something true about yourself, such as being gay or being good at taxidermy, you're gonna talk about it to no end and cringe everybody around you for some time. You might even present yourself through that discovery. And then, as the newness factor sinks in, you're gonna stop talking about it. You're gonna start digging deeper because you know you can't sustain that first feeling on just one experience as your words, through repetition, will inevitably ring hollow. And next thing you know you're listening to Sektarism

"But something has to be said about the way some of these professional reviewers can 5 something like Ordinary Corrupt Human Love. I’m sure this is what it was like when Be Here Now was given glowing reviews. A real head scratcher."
"Yes, I am writing this review in reaction to the current existing reviews for this release."
One of the most pretentious things I've read on this website in a while. Something receiving critical acclaim while you don't like it doesn't mean that there's something wrong with the critics.

I'm honestly standing by this. Yes I think the reviewers on this site are very positively biased and it's true, I dislike the over-hype for this record. It's easy to over-react.

Good review. I'm 100% with you.

So when Potsy left he took all his reviews with him? I cannot find his Low Teens review anywhere - which is exactly what this review reminds me of.

Actually, I'd say half the people who pos'd this read the summary and dipped. Or maybe they read the whole thing and just cared more about the rating than this review's writing.
I read the whole thing, and it was a painful slog to get through. I'd be fine with this review if it was actually good. I completely get why people don't like this album; the rating isn't my problem, the problem is the review itself.
