I remember thinking she sounded a bit different as early as Valentine, but that seemed more like an intentional shift in singing-style than anything. Also, she was like ~18 at the time of recording Lush, there's a clear difference with age. Anyway I checked out the single and it was solid, but I went back to Heat Wave after listening to it to make sure I wasn't crazy and the difference in her voice is kinda wild. I didn't know about the voice injury/throat surgery and that kinda makes sense
