Yeah always been crazy about that image. The next step to that worldview was realizing that every point of light is a sun. Can't imagine the amount of mindfucking this involved.

Also consider that it's a two-dimensional view of the sky. Looking up at the stars now, it's obvious we are seeing into space.

I think the way Neil deGrasse Tyson used the artwork as an analogy for the revolutionary ideas of Giordano Bruno on the order of the Cosmos ,clashing with the traditional geocentric views of the time was very fitting with the engraving of a missionary reaching beyond the heavens and discovering this beautiful, infinite world.

I am overwhelmed by all this amazing feedback (and the feature on the front page). Thanks again everyone, I am truly grateful.
