Honestly, I'm kind of shocked that this one is disappointing to so many people. I've been enjoying my spins of it, and I guess it really connected with me in places.
My biggest problem is "Make America Great Again" which feels, really, really dumb, and I'm still not convinced that my rating shouldn't go down another half a point for it.

The closer is my favorite song here. Great lyrics.

1933 is an undeniable banger and I don't even agree with the message. The rest of the album is just so unbelievably safe, boring and "clean". It is devoid of anything interesting. And Make America Great Again is unforgivable.

Was Make America Great Again meant to be somewhat tongue-and-cheek? Or was that a genuine attempt at political discourse?

Worryingly I think it's genuine

Was more fun when people (incorrectly) hated him for being too right leaning

I feel like this is getting a bit too much hate. I will probably settle for a 3, which makes it his weakest, but it still has a lot of stuff going for it.

Oh, 100% tongue-in-cheek. Expresses some genuine sentiments, of course, but it's supposed to be humorous (that "special relationship" line is obvious, but clever). I think it's same for most of the album: there's no blatant attempt to shovel political opinion, but I do think he has some interesting things to say.

Daniel Bryan must not have very good opinions

Agreed with Sowing, closer's lyrics are really good and important without being too obvious. Same goes for 1933. Frank has never experimented as much as he does on this album, not necessarily breaking new ground in general, but it's nice that he is willing to change his sound. Blackout is a rather successful alt rock song, for example.
It has a lot of faults and not much stuff here stands out, but it's far from a throwaway album. That being said, Make America Great Again just didn't pan out very well.

he needs to make an acoustic album at this point. there is WAY too much shit going on in the majority of these songs.

With Make America Great Again I feel like he's trying to reclaim the slogan and rebrand it as an antiracism tune. It's not the worst but it's cheesy as shit and really heavy handed.

I don't even have problem with its lyrics as much as I do with the clunky verses which sound like a fucking nursery rhyme sung by an 8 year old.
