I wouldn't go as far as sowing's 4, which I feel like it's become a meme of sowing's inflated rating's over the years, but this is a fun record and def has it's fair share of highlights. Also glad to see you like Sturgill now sowing, the rating comment is all in jest, nothing like falling in love with new music.

Case in point you have this rated higher than your Sounds of Madness review sowing lol

But that was back when I had TDAG at a 4.5 so I mean what do ratings really mean

Sound of Madness is probably a 4.5 for me now and Leave a Whisper is almost a classic

Damn, this review gets me excited. Was a huge fan of their first 3 albums back in the day. Threat to Survival was a mess.

This is somewhere between Amaryllis and Sound of Madness in both sound and quality. Don't go into it expecting it to be as good as one of their first 3 albums and you hopefully won't be disappointed.

That sounds like a decent description. I’m 4 songs in and it’s definitely better than Threat, but I’m hoping it gets a little heavier.

Update: Pyro is a really cool song

This is better than they've sounded in a long time. I expected to listen once for nostalgia's sake and not come back to it, but this is actually a pretty fun album.

Us and Them is their best album by far. Also, their first 3 albums lyrically are quite good, ya'll are high!!

Exactly the same here Ties. I also agree with everyone about the lyrics on their early albums. Although some of it was still some cringeworthy emo faux poetry, they also had songs like In Memory, Burning Bright, and Some Day that absolutely nailed it.

Pyro, Monsters, Evolve, and The Human Radio are my favorite tracks off this.

Shinedown has had their moments with good lyrics. My favorite song by them "Through the Ghost" is a decent song overall. I just feel this album is particularly lazy in terms of writing. Like I said, I just don't feel a lot of effort went into this album. It's hard for me to get into after my first few listens.

I'll do a full song ranking soon but right now for me it's special, brilliant, kill your conscience, and creature - in no particular order.

I'll be looking out for your full song ranking. It's a good review overall and you have every right to enjoy it, Sowing. I just don't understand the appeal I guess. The record is fundamentally broken in my opinion. I see what they're going for, and I'm fine with it; I just don't like how they went about delivering the album. "Cut the Chord" was a good song that I enjoyed previously. They're trying to emulate that high octane edge appeal and produce a bunch of bangers. The problem is their mixing and utilization of elements. I don't think taking modern beats and vibes and mixing them with post-grunge helps in any way. It sounds weird and the riffs don't mesh well with them either. It sounds out of place.
