Only listened to the second part and samples from the first. If the transition works and the bm is great as usual this could be aoty

Whenever I'm really looking forward to an album that I might review I listen to it with my morning coffee before work. Did the same with Rivers of Nihil.

You drink coffee for two hours before work?

My work day starts a little later and extends further into the evening. If I'm up at 7 I have plenty of time.

honestly he should have released these separately, it's so hard to appraise it as a whole

If they were separate it would’ve detracted from the whole thing to be honest

Yep. Although they really are sonically quite different, thematically the two halves are too linked to separate them.

I think I like Part II more than the first, but I absolutely love how much Austin channeled Windir on 'Blåtimen'. 'En Generell Avsky' totally sounds like it could've come from a modern Icelandic or other Euro bm band, especially with the Nordvis guy on vox.

After being through it two times, I think I would have to agree. I usually hate these kinds of things.

Fantastic album. Lunn's clean vocals though

@Spado, I can totally understand why. It's that whole mood thing I mentioned in another review. There aren't big individual climaxes so much as one constantly simmering one.

Didn't love part 1 much the last one took a while to click too, so hopefully it'll be a grower as well. Haven't gotten to the folk jams yet but I'm feeling I'll like it more kinda.

I love the dialogue in Snow Burdened Branches. We’ll see if my rating holds up but right now I’m pretty blown away by this. Also thinking I should revisit Kentucky

I've never tried this band. Probably a good time to take the dive?

Great review, other than the deaheaven thing. I get what you mean about them both sharing a similar but different kind of hopeful or upbeat air to their music, but I don’t think deafheaven ‘throw(ing) glitter on everything’ is a good description at all lol.
