When what's within the quotation marks is an entire sentence or a long-enough part of one, I place the period within the quotation marks. Otherwise, if it's just a word or a small phrase, I place the period outside. That's my rule, anyway.

different outlets have different house rules so i just do whatever looks best at the time

Punctuation “rules” are just made-up conventions anyways.

had to bump up my rating. i dont feel its instrumentally or lyrically as strong as ACLAM but its still very powerful.

Instrumentally this is better but lyrically nowhere close. Just doesn't pack that same gut punch to made crow one of a kind. Otherwise it's right up there.

still some really devastating lines on here though.
As my grief becomes calcified, frozen in stories,
and in these songs I keep singing, numbing it down,
the unsingable real memory of you
and the feral eruptions of sobbing,
these waves hit less frequently.
They thin and then they are gone.
You are gone
then your echo is gone
then the crying is gone
and what is left but this merchandise?
so I talk about you all the time
including the last day that you were alive
and I hang your pictures around the house
for me to surprise myself with and cry.
I saw myself
in this one young woman in the foreground with a look of desolation
and a body that looked pregnant as she leaned against the moss covered rocks
off to the side, apart from all the people celebrating Midsummer.
I knew her person was gone just like me.
I stand to put on music.
Our daughter sees and asks for mama’s record.
She’s staring at the speaker with a look of recognition,
putting it together that that’s you singing.
I’m sobbing and eating eggs again.
I will go out beneath
with
arms
reached
and run my fingers through the air
where
you
breathed,
touching your last breath,
reaching through to the world of the gone
with my hand empty.
ouch.

so crow resonated immediately but also it wasn't immediate at all
(I'm ribbing you but this is a step up lyrically if anything)

immediately once I gave it a fair/second chance
whatever if crow went from a 2 to a 5 then I guess this will go from a 4.5 to a 7.5? hold fast hope, rowan.

crow sucks because it “isn’t music” is my least favorite music-related argument ever. glad the detractors can’t pull that nonsense here

"he’s already said it’s not going to"
glad to hear it. as much as I love the style of Dawn and Crow and the like, I do miss his more extravagant moments

I think I like this better than Crow. For now at least

Anyone else sensing a bit of Mark Kozelek influence on this one, with the rambling, linear songwriting?

That old fart doofus mentioned him

yuck that album art reminds me of williamsburg, or wes anderson

yeah the parallel with Kozelek has been pretty clear since Crow for me. in the vocal delivery for sure
Elvrum's actually doing it in service of good music is the major difference
