When what's within the quotation marks is an entire sentence or a long-enough part of one, I place the period within the quotation marks. Otherwise, if it's just a word or a small phrase, I place the period outside. That's my rule, anyway.

yeah the parallel with Kozelek has been pretty clear since Crow for me. in the vocal delivery for sure
Elvrum's actually doing it in service of good music is the major difference
