Good a reason as any on this site I guess.

It was hard to really nail a rating. A 3.5 seemed a bit low for "Sempiternal" in my opinion. The album wasn't mediocre to me because the concept and presentation of the theme was exceptional to my standards. The album was also refreshing and unique for its time. Again, the album was not perfect, but for the effort and articulation involved, I can say it did exceed my expectations. The impact "Sempiternal" had after its release was what amazed me the most. I didn't expect it to be as impactful as it was. I don't think 2013 is a non-sequitur.

I drop 5's on albums that have me constantly keep going back to them and the album still sounding fresh, this doesn't achieve that at all IMO.

That's where relativity weaves its tangled web. You have the right to feel that way because the album doesn't speak to you like that. I won't argue with you about that because the album is supposed to do that, not me. I constantly revisit this album because this, along with most of Killswitch Engage, got me into the metalcore genre. I seldom drop 5's. This is my second 5, first being Nine Inch Nail's "The Fragile." Like I said, my standards are very different. I can't judge Bring Me the Horizon on the same standards I do for Tool, Nine Inch Nails, Deftones, or Thirty Seconds to Mars. Each band aims to accomplish something different, and for that, have to judge them on that premise. This was a controversial review for sure, which adds to the fun.

Oh no don't get me wrong art affects other people differently and people are fine to hold different opinions. I was just giving what I use as my reasoning for giving an album a 5. TBH this probably would be a 5 and still sound fresh had I not had it playing non stop for at least 2 months when it came out (yeah I was that obsessed with it haha, I've easily passed the 200 listen throughs mark, if not 300).

I can't blame you for overplaying it. I fall victim to that when it comes to Tool. I've listened to "Lateralus" at least 1,000,000 times by now. I refrain from reviewing those records for the time being, even thought the comment section will be a ton of fun. I mostly examine the fundamentals of what makes the record, compare it to the portrayal the music offers, and go from there. The album had a good purpose, unique premise, and good music. When I looked at previous reviews, I took note of their criticisms and examined them to my standards. When I think of a 3 or 3.5, I usually consider that average. 1-2.5 I think of as poor. I didn't see anything average about the album because it didn't come off as generic to me. There wasn't some missing factor, noticeable flaw, or filler tracks to make a great album a good album in conclusion. Any record will become stale if overplayed to a certain extent, but this album has aged well and became a hallmark after a few years.

See some albums I just never get tired of, like Lateralus, the self titled by Innerpartysystem, TDAG or Hybrid Theory for example.

One of the truest things I've read in regards to this band actually. Really good point.

'Go to Hell for Heaven's Sake' was a bit outspoken, but it has a good charm to it. It wasn't nearly as cringeworthy as 'Throne,' but I can see why people would dislike it.
