Wow, I don't find this anywhere near as bad as the general consensus and I've been listening to Machine Head since 1994.
Had California bleeding and Razorblade smile (and perhaps Bastards-although not bad a bit out of place here) been left off the album it would've been even better. Could've done without couple of other odds things like the gutterals on Grind you down (lol) and the intro to Kaleidoscope but overall it's actually quite a refreshing album for a band 9 albums deep into their career.
I'd say at least half of the knee-jerk 1 to 2 star scores were by those who haven't listened to the album.

Volatile and Catharsis are so awesome! looks like he's learned these new two words and he was struggling to say or spell them. But hey! Now he got them right! No one will stop MH...not even the fans...

My 6 month old child had a sleeping problem, I played this album because is more effective then white noise, he was sleeping after two songs. I recommed it for digestive problems.

Apparently Sputnik allows fuck, cunt, etc. if you edit the review. Do replace the asterisks so that there's no ambiguity if you have the time. There are some minor typos but a classic review is a classic review so fuck it.

I'm with TrephineArtist on this one. I listened to this expecting it to be an absolute calamity due to the quite frankly outrageous reviews that had been put out pre release. You know what, it ain't that bad at all. Sure, when you're referring to an album as 'it ain't that bad' there's clearly some issues, but I really feel the hate for this release has become a bandwagon reaction - I'm going to assume that at least half the comments on here are from people who haven't even heard it..
Anyway, I actually feel this could've been a solid release were it not for a few average tracks that really are out of place - most notably Bastards and Razorblade Smile which are poor. Taking the 12 best songs from this album, I really like what they've done, especially given they are 9 albums and 25 years into their career. If I'm being honest, I prefer the dozen good tracks on this album over anything MH did up until Through The Ashes/The Blackening.

Do the lyrics suck? English is not my first language so I have a bit of difficulty to understand the lyrics if I don't have the lyric sheet. Only found the lyrics of 5 songs.

Can't blame that only 83 users rated this though. It's 74 minutes long.
