He (she?) made this album to apologize for one bad thing they did while secretly hoping they wouldn't get exposed for something else they was covering up (they did) and people would feel bad for them because they poured their heart out and were very sorry for what they did (no one did).

Also "separate the art from the artist" is the stance of cowards and actively reductive to the concept of music as an art form.
