I mean it's not as offensively awful as their old stuff, it's just boring radio rock

Also them being "one of the biggest names in metalcore" doesn't mean anything. If anything it's a bad thing because they helped give the genre a really terrible reputation amongst outsiders

Had a weird inkling that this would be really good for some reason, but besides about three songs this thing is super bland and schizophrenic in tone. The best songs are miles better than anything on The Black though. Hopelessly Hopeless is a nice song, Into the Fire is a decent radio rock tune (especially if they drop the shoehorned in breakdown, although the radio edit on the album is shit since they just awkwardly cut around it so there's a huge missing block of the song) and I actually just straight up lovee Where Did It Go for reasons unknown to me.
Empire is lol tier shit on the other hand and a lot of the other songs just make no sense for various reasons. No idea what core sound they were actually going for since there's so much random bullshit on this thing.

They're not strictly wrong about them being a huge name in metalcore though, like sure you have to separate them into strictly the mainstreamish risecore wave of the early 2010s, late 2000s and such but when they blew up they legit had dozens and dozens of new bands copying them and influenced everybody in that scene
whether that scene is shit to you is another issue entirely lol but that's kinda how it was

Alone in a Room, Hopelessly Hopeful and Into the Fire are the songs I come back to, they still do the catchy radio tracks well. Shame the heavy tracks here are awful.

We were only debating it because someone was making a claim that they weren't one of the biggest modern metalcore bands, which they are.

Do they actually cut the screaming bit of Into the Fire out on the radio?

The mixing and overall production on this album are terrible, some of the worst I've heard. A lot of songs on here just sound like a jumbled mess.
