I just don't get how anyone can rate this highly considering their body of work. Axe to fall, you fail me, awlwlb... Like, besides halo in a haystack, which of their albums doesn't destroy this? Grim is probably the only truly great song here

This entire release is just completely disjointed and chaotic in the worst kind of way.

The album is one of their worst imo yeah, but just because it doesn’t compare well to the rest doesn’t mean it isn’t good by any means

I mean, take out either Plagues or Grim Heart / Black Rose and it flows so much better. One of its greatest strengths imo is its jagged, maniacal aesthetic. Like, the abrasiveness of AtF and JD has worn off on me a bit (though I still prefer those albums), whereas this still flaws me

Take out that song and the album is so much shorter

Strange comment, surely it depends how much you like the artist in question. Converge are one of my favourite bands, so a 4 for one of their worst releases seems fair. I still enjoy this a lot, hence the high rating. I'm not marking it down because JD etc. exist.
