I actually like this album alot. It is Tool's most accessible stuff; straight forward hard rock. For some reason I like swamp song....don't kill me. 4/5. Good album to introduce people to Tool.

ya this review sucked ass the first couple things were good but the 'fillers' as you say make tool who they are and there music its not annoying and boring and the 4 minutes intro to flood is the shit it builds up his madness and insanity of the song if you dont notice hes an insane person hlding something from the flood then the flood comes and takes it and being a drummer and guitarist all there music to me wether it be repetitive or boring it still is tool and you cant dislike them if you say your a fan its there art and even if it was a intro with no words like eon blue thats the build up to the patient and its a nice guitar solo to open the patient dont think of tool as an ordinary band that would insult them there so much behind tool that you dont know obviously and when you study that youll respect them and learn hey there not just the average band there more and every song theyve did i havent had a problem with your just a fucking critic idiot you may like them but obviously you hate them as well for me nething they do i listen to and have no problem with and another thing with the undertow pics there not gross and disturbing there humorous and showing the humorous side of tool betcha didnt know that shit......right a better review jackass and stop being a critic

break it up just a bit, but i actually agree, Chancellor pwns D'Amour at bass, any day, and Aenima and Latrealus are so much better
i'd love to see you write a better review if you think this one sucks so bad. This Message Edited On 09.19.06

Yeah, I'd really like to see you write one just as good. Chancellor is way better at bass than Paul, though Paul had some good stuff too.
Great review, unlike what that guy said.

This isnt one of my favorite TooL albums. But I like the fact that its different than there later albums. And I agree with what turntheotherway said about TooL being a Band that the more you listen to them the more you really start to love them. I think 10,000 days is a great cd At first I didnt like it and now I love it. Thats probably why people are either a complete fan or hate TooL.

Aye, so that Thegrudge guy, I didn't read all your post but I know it's pretty idiotic.

No, YOU suck! I actually wasted a minute or so to read your utterly, crappy, retarted, stupid comment. You're the one who is no tool fan, because tool would never want a guy like you to be fan..This Message Edited On 09.19.06

I realize this happened a day ago, but I haven't had time to comment about it until now.
you may like them but obviously you hate them as well
I think that says enough about this guy's intelligence. Man, my Tool reviews sure garner a lot of hate. Jesus, I rated this a 3.5. That's a good rating! Tool fanboys are a lot fiercer than I expected.

i agree, and it is a great album Brain Dead, and great review

Hey, good review man... I would never review this album myself though... as, although its good, there is nothing particularly interesting to say about it lol As you rightly say - its formulaic, which, for Tool is rare. But its their first cd i guess so ill let em off ;)
Fantastic review though and I agree with pretty much all your points (and believe that Prison Sex is perhaps one of the best Tool songs ever - yes the lyrics are incredible).
and just for the record, my list goes like this...
Lateralus
10,000 Days (JUST behind Lat)
Salival (Pushit [Live] - WOW)
Aenima
Opiate
Undertow
(For anyone shocked at my low rating of Aenima, i think its an incredible record, music wise, but the intermissions just TAINT it. And although Opiate is shorter, I still find the listen more interesting than Undertow)

That guy talking on disgustipated is Maynard.
I do agree that the best songs on the abulm are Sober and Prison Sex. I mean, Sober is the song that got me into Tool in the first place. But Dude, Swamp Song being the worst song Tool has ever made. I'm not to sure about that one. I got Swampsong right after Prison sex, Sober, and Undertow in my book.
Well here's how I rank my Tool albums
Lateralus (fav CD of all time)
Aenima (second fav CD of all time)
Undertow
10,000 Days
Opiate
Salival

Listening to this album again, I have no clue whether I want to up my rating to average or lower it down to a 1.5. We'll see how my mood is as the day progresses.

I like this album a lot. Prison Sex and Sober are two awesome songs. The cricket noises at the end of Disgustipated are very annoying though.

Excellent review man, and i basically agree with everything you said. Particularly about digustipated and that revolting linear art.

I totally agree with you honeymoon on 10,000 days. it has two of tool's best songs ever but i still can't stand how many riffs and ideas they recycled so...it goes like this
-Lateralus/Aenima (Two fav albums)
-Undertow (huge drop off)
-10,000 days
-Opiate (they were just too green)
I wont include salival for obvious reasons but i'll say that third eye live is pure bliss.
As for the review i thought it was good. i agreed with just about everything. i like how you said maynard finds a happy medium in his lyrics by balancing mystery and clarity. and there is way too much filler in the album. but the gripe about the liner notes? come on, its tool, they're sick.

Aenima>Lateralus>this>10000 days
i don't see why everyone likes 10,000 days so much, half of it is filler (Lipan Conjuring, Lost Keys, the horrible Disposition copy Intension, and Viginti Tres) and you might argue that Aenima has a lot of filler but with the exception of Cesaro Summability the filler on Aenima is really atmospheric and adds a whole new dimension to the album.
