@tacos I dunno about slacked, as that suggests lack of effort - it's just different to Prayer and Farewell. I expect someone with more of a background in noise rock would get more from this than their previous two, so it balances out.

@scuro thanks fella ^ ^ Hope you check it out!

Great review! I'm from the same city as Idylls so I've seen them live a bunch of times. I'll give you a couple of nitpicky corrections - Idylls' current drummer is Lloyd Daniels. I don't know if Kurt Ballou was involved with the production of this record, but the majority of the production work would have been handled by their guitarist Chris. He runs a studio called Underground Audio.

This is by far my favourite Idylls record; I think it's the most interesting and technically impressive work they've done. Anyone interested should check out this interview their singer did earlier in the year: https://unbelievablybadmag.com/2017/05/02/idylls-billie-stimple-confronting-toxic-masculinity-challenging-mathcore-bros/

Thanks greatly for the corrections, I'll make those now :] It sounds really Ballou-y I think, but if that's what they were going for then it works.

Album rules; Prayer is a tough record to follow up but I think they nailed it.

Good review, although Ballou didn't work on this at all, as mentioned earlier.

That UNGH at the beginning of Maslow's Dogs adds so much to the whole song, I think. The last track had to grow on me but I love it now. This whole album can easily be shocking on first listen, but digging in is so much fun.

Listened to this again recently, still love it.

I think what sets this band apart for me is the approach to the drums, he's got kind of a jazzy flow as opposed to the rigid precision you'd expect for this type of music. Lots of dynamics & more liquid than solid, but still hits really hard when it needs to. Great stuff.

I love this a little bit more each time I jam it. I'm so glad they went down this route now. Bass clank on this entire thing is murderous.
