That and The Drapery Falls were the only tracks to ever pull me back in. May have to give the album another spin.

'Ghost Reveries, Still Life and My Arms, Your Hearse slaughter this in my books.'

This is almost correct, 'slaughter' is maybe a bit strong but they're all better. Orchid & Morningrise as well. And considering the heaps of praise this album gets in comparison to much of their other work, it's surprising.

I used to think Orchid & Morningrise were a little messy & unfocused (in comparison) but they've really grown on me hard. Still Life & MAYH are my only Opeth 5s.

Orchid is amazing but tbh it does feel a bit unfocused and like they are finding their footing.

Watershed will always be my least favorite death metal vocals era Opeth though

Listened to it again, my opinion is unchanged. Mostly indifferent to it, the second half of "Bleak" stood out a bit more this time, but otherwise there isn't nearly as much for me to latch onto as the Opeth albums I hold in higher regard. Taken on its own, this is pretty solid, but for a pre-Heritage Opeth album, it comes up woefully short in my books.

Xeno, I totally agree with you that this is overrated. It's excellently constructed, written, and produced, but it doesn't quite have the magic of the previous albums imo. Still a hard 4 for me though.

I always found Still Life a bit more cold and soulless than this.

Still Life is incredible, but it's kind of wedged between two albums that outshine it in almost every way imo
