"This what their new stuff should sound like"



That would have meant retreating old grounds and that wouldn't have been necessary. I'd like to see them striving for a dark, melodramatic yet melodic style comparabe to Van der Graaf's Still Life. It would fit Akerfeldt's vocals too and would have a lot more bite than the last two releases.

That sounds awesome actually love van der graaf



And I mean progression from this album not trying a whole new sound that doesn't work



Opeth staying in their niche has obvious results. Ghost reveries is a great example of just progression

Hm, Ghost Reveries added a whole new main instrument, that's a lot more than most bands do in their whole career

yes it was a nice progression for opeth. Obviously they're not some grindcore band who would lose all their fans if they did that. Speaking of, opeth would do that later anyway.
