Yeah I honestly don't understand anybody's criteria when they believe the band fell off for a few years until Vanquish or Dirges came out. They're not that different from any of the few albums that came before and I feel like people tend to see them as a "comeback" mainly because those albums came out around the time these people got into the band. I can't think of any other reason as to why Dirges is suddenly seen as a return to form when The Infernal Storm is regarded as subpar.

Lets be real dude... No one is saying they sucked in the 2000s dude, but if we are being realistic, they had a string of albums that didnt seem nearly as inspiried as their first 3. Vanquish heralded the return of production values that werent flat as a pancake and a more diverse array of riffs and songwriting nuances

While I love Vanquish more than most of their albums (simply because it was my first Incantation album), all their albums are of a similarly high standard. Just my tü sense tho.

All of their albums are fairly similar as far as songwriting and riffs go, but a huge part of why anyone listens to Incantation is the filth, which this doesn't have. The reason why people think they fell off in the 2000s (even if I disagree as Infernal Storm is underrated IMO) is because there is a huge difference, sonically, in their albums pre and post-Conquest.

I'll add to what I originally said that I like Vanquish and Infernal Storm as well. I somewhat like dirges too just not as much. Idk this one didn't grab me like those either. Something was off here for me, and it's probably what Jac described in this review

I cant really call myself a metal OG. I only started getting into death metal about 9 years ago when i was 17. Before that it was a lot of xcorex stuff.

Thats about as long as I have too. Id say you count for OG status at this point. At a certain point (like 5 years deep idk lol) it comes down to how much youve explored the genre. You could settle with the legends and never look back or you can crawl into the filthy bowels of dm and see it for all its putrid glory.

I mean I've been listening to heavy metal since I was 5 years old but I never listened to Incantation until 2012, which is the year my interest in death metal really started to climb. Before that I was mainly a black metal and prog metal fanboy for several years.

If y'all wanna hear a band do Incantation better than Incantation (Spirit's words) in 2017, check the new Father Befouled and have a birb https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYJB0zyjt70

Oh fuck no! Their debut is all you need by them.

Great review by the way. Totally disagree, this and Immolation have put out the best of the best for osdm this year.

Literally every Incantation album sounds the same

What? They're holy trinity (Onward to Golgotha, Mortal Throne of Nazarene, Diabolical Conquest) are diverse enough to warrant them all classics in the dm universe.

Father Befouled are like if Incantation wrote boring, univentive, simplistic riffs and didnt draw out their songs long enough to fully expand on the ideas.

dissing Incantation for being Incantation but then recommending Father Befouled? umm....

I haven't even heard Profane Nexus yet and I know that its better than FB's new album (which is only a little less mediocre than all their previous albums)

Incantation have been on a roll and they're not gonna trash a good thing

First three were different somehow, the rest sounds the same and it gets worse each album .I'll rather listen to the clones nowadays.
