"They're essentially a rehash of the most average tough guy Deathcore out there "
they're kinda the originators of it so that's the trick

I think I know the reason this band never takes shit for embodying the worst deathcore tropes. They really kinda don't - the biggest gripe most people used to have with early deathcore bands (and sometimes still valid today) was how breakdowns were awkwardly shoehorned into the songs just for the sake of it - with no proper buildup, transition or even a good purpose for that matter. They stuck out like a sore thumb, and felt unnecessary, forced and only geared towards making people mosh while not matching the sense, quality and musicianship of the rest of the song.
In The Acacia Strain's case, such accusations cannot be valid, since all of their songs are downtempo and consist of chugs. Therefore it's not possible to distinguish a breakdown from the rest of the song, which at least gives them that bit of cohesion and authenticity that bands mentioned above lack. I remember one dude complaining in his review that there were like 117 or so breakdowns on Wormwood. I have no idea how he counted, since there is never a clear indication as to when the breakdowns start or end, as entire fucking songs are downtempo chugs, that's the thing here folks

Yes, sucking 100% of the time instead of just the usual 25. how cohesive and authentic.

that was exactly how i felt about it. hated it on release but after a while it clicked and i liked it a lot. same with wormwood actually. both of those are groovy as fuck, which is exactly what this album is missing.

Death is the only mortal has the songwriting to back up its generic Djent sound. Also the production is awesome. Digital as shit but still sounds massive.
Like the first track. After the edgy intro you hear "BWAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRrrrr" and it ridiculously good
