"I thought House was by The Animals and not LZ."

It was around waaaaay before The Animals but to me their cover is the definitive version.

I originally inherited my music library from my older brother (at the time, circa 12 years ago, had little more than RHCP and classic rock) and it's been labeled in my library as LZ since; I have not once questioned it or been questioned by anyone for calling it a LZ track. So f'in weird.

Damn you'd think someone would've already pointed it out, especially since the Animals' version is extremely well known. Oh well now you know.

I can't believe I've gone well over 1/3 of my entire life (and the last 12 years) thinking something so utterly false. I blame society.

Also - excellent review, pos'd, and all that.

This is a band with a ton of potential they just haven't done much with it yet.

That's a bit unfair, there's some great moments on this album and An Awesome Wave shows they can make great music when they hone their talents.

Finally got around to reading this. Great review of a tricky album and band. Thanks for the shoutout btw!

One of the things that always confused me was a certain set of people - more casual music fans, for lack of a better term - held the second album up to the same level as the debut. The second album helped propel the band to a sold-out Madison Square Garden show. I've always found that album quite obtuse and to be a difficult listen. Maybe it makes nice background music if you're not really paying attention, but my idea of alt-J is a band that deserves close listening

That's interesting because I think they can be pretty exciting. For example 'Fitzpleasure' or 'Tesselate' - even 'In Cold Blood' here.

Since we're talking about end of year reflections:

This album is so fucking frustrating. This band is so fucking frustrating. It's like they have all this potential ans no idea what to do with it, they need to focus and hone it or else they're just going to be another band with 1 fantastic album and not much else. This isn't bad, I enjoyed the album, it's just not up to the standard they set with their debut- save for maybe 3WW.
