That's because you've been listening to swans too much Flug. You need to purify yourself, go back to the basics. I pity your soul.

Review is half the reason I checked the album out, since I wasn't too crazy about Dystopia and Plagues. Have to say I agree, this is the first Iced Earth album with Stu Block I can see myself repeatedly coming back to, so much more engaging than its predecessors.

Glad you enjoyed, Xeno!
"I didn't know about that manosg, I thought they argued back in the day because Schaffer had used some songs that were gonna be used for the next D&W... am I wrong?"
Really? Had no idea about that haha. Very interested about a new D&W though, I'd love to listen to Hansi singing some thrashy power metal.

Congrats for your 100 review man! Great read as always. Might check the album. Only heard a couple songs, I can't say that I am overly enthusiastic nor disappointed with their new offering at the moment.

Nice review man. I love me some older Iced Earth, Alive in Athens is easily one of my favorite live albums, but what has me most intrigued are the leads by the dude from Witherfall and hearing Stu Block with these guys. I saw Into Eternity a long time ago with that guy and his vocals are completely nuts live.

A rare Yujos sighting is always a joy, thank you!
Agreed Dungeon. I was very intrigued as well but I'm even more intrigued for the next album where he will be able to contribute even more. Let's see if/how he can use his skills and neoclassical influences with Schaffer's songwriting.

Better and more energetic than Plagues, even though it doesn't hits Dystopia's level of consistency. The songwriting is good for the most part with a combination of IE's usual riffing with neo-classical/symphonic touches, the production is powerful and dynamic (thank fucking God) and Clear The Way is the best epic they wrote in a long time.
If Dystopia was a strong 4, this a 3.7 album for me. Enjoyed it, but man Schaffer seriously needs to axe the teary-eyed cheesy ballads and put more focus on the more agressive side of IE.

Same here dude. It's one thing to be the leader (Steve Harris), be responsible for the vision and keep your team united with some exceptions of course, and another to change personnel so often. It bothers me as well.
"manosg you greek bro?"
Yup.

Great review, and agreed this is a strong album (Block's vocals are amazing!), but far from the band's peaks in the '90s.
This is accurately reflected in the rating average as well.

I definitely think this is a great improvement over Plagues of Babylon, but it is of course no Night of the Stormrider.
