was there anything more definitive on that breakup? i saw some of it when it first happened, but mostly I just remember some accusations against chris and him having his own story with neither side being particularly easy to determine their honesty

It looks like everybody is shitting on Letchler without looking further into it. It appears that his improved lifestyle is because of his wife's success. It looks like other members were jealous and felt entitled to more money because Chris was doing well through that. When you look at all the stuff that he posted on his instagram there's no way he would have been able to afford that shit off of the money STS makes.

Yeah, what I read when it all came out made it seem like that as well- that the other guys weren't making money while Chris was doing well with his solo merch sales and his wife's career. It did sound like the touring members weren't getting paid much, but we'll never know what the finances look like for the band so it's all pure speculation at this point. It sucks that they weren't getting paid and he was doing well, but was that because he didn't' want to share band money or because he was making his own money too?

I thought it was pretty weak that one of the previous members was crying about him selling his tab books and shit on Scale the Summit tours, but Chris also didn't seem like the coolest guy even just reading his side of the story.

Still haven't heard this, btw. Last album didn't do much for me, but I do like the first 4.

I can see the conflict of interest in selling your proper merch at your band's show, but realistically where else is the guy going to sell it aside from online? Not like he's gonna do a tour to perform musical exercises and shit.

I don't know. Maybe if the other members wanted to promote their other projects and he said they couldn't I'd get it. But, like you said, where the shit else is he going to sell it?

He seems like a douche to me, but I feel like a lot of the backlash is over things for which we will never have a definitive picture. The guys could've just quit and not made such a big deal. It just turned into a smear campaign, it's not like they ended up getting paid.

I try not to get involved with discussions on behind-the-scenes drama, and this album is no exception. Does Letchford come across as an anus? Sure. But I'm here for the music, and I think it's casually enjoyable for what it is. Decent background music, if nothing else.

Yeah, I hear you. It doesn't really impact my opinion on the music at all. I just read both sides when the drama came up. Is what it is.

Plus his signature Kiesel guitar is called Gold Digger and it's ugly as hell lol

I don't agree with the review, but pos anyway for the articulate savagery.

I can't say I agree or disagree yet, but 'articulate savagery' is an accurate description of the review.

To be honest, all the drama surely looked bad (definitely something fishy going on), but as long as the output's quality wasn't compromised I wouldn't care much. But as a huge fan of StS previous work, this is a huge disappointment. There's barely anything of the sound "the band" is known for, most tracks are completely forgettable and simply put, a clusterfuck of riffs and ideas that half of the time make no sense (and for someone who's into prog and avant-garde stuff that's saying quite a lot). The production is also pretty bad... It also is a shame how underused all the guests are on the album, considering he's got Yvette Young, Nick Johnston or Jeff Loomis in there, and sincerely their apparitions are among the few memorable moments of the whole album to me (just before another disjointed section follows).

I don't know, I'll give it a couple more spins for sure, but I seriously doubt it's going to grow any more on me, or that I'll go back to it again. Considering I have almost all of their discography at a 4, this 2.5 (and thanks) hurts.

This is easily STS less impressive work but this review and most of the ratings/comments in here are biased by what went down with the band members which should have nothing to do with the music itself and the reviews conducted on it.

This review has no value for me.

this review brought up memories of the last time i saw norma jean live, a band i've known since high school.

every member expect their singer was vastly younger than i was and i dont even think myself terribly old (28). not even close to the same band i knew haha

Still need to listen to this, but I doubt it's a 1.5. Still unlikely anywhere near their peak (this album seems like it was just shoved out the door ASAP).
