yea, this is proper dumb.. also, given sonic youth's timeline, and when gira made it to new York, I'd say he's the one who pilfered their monolithic tendencies.. which is sort of a moot point, two different sorts of noise music really..

You don't think Sonic Youth could have influenced Swans, who more recently went on to influence Thurston? Examples of those loops of influence aren't unheard of, see Gary Numan influencing NIN and then that coming full circle

basically what Thurston is trying to do here feels like what Gira has been doing on the recent Swans albums, much more than it feels like a sincere continuation of previous sounds from Thurston's career, be it solo or in SY

I think that'd make more sense to me if Moore ever stopped actually making this sort of music this entire time, though I take your point about cyclical influence.. Even if SY's last albums weren't as doom-like as their earlier output, i doubt that sound ever left him.. That being said, I stand by what i said earlier about them being very different bands to me.. This is more spastically patterned and careening than Gira.. it's also much much better in my opinion..

This doesn't remind me of early SY, it reminds me of recent Swans... both of which I prefer to this

sea change was alright.. until I re-listened to a whole bunch of serge gainsbourg, and realized that he'd blatantly ripped off the old French pervert for nearly every melody on it..

just listen to Paper Tiger and Melody..
