"happier black metal"
no fun - no core - no mosh - no trend

idk it feels more cohesive given the first album was like one fast song and then a bunch of random slow junk. This has better pacing and bc they've got that constant bass sound and everything feels the same--because everything is the same. I think the melodic work is much better too, so that's biasing me a bit.

I really want to like them but they don't make it easy and the Deafheaven comparisons don't help.

Haters gonna hate, absolutely brilliant album with great guitar work.

you're gonna have to spell out for me how a 70-min album can be solid when it's got twelve tracks, like 9 of which sound the same.

they were like "hey people liked that really prominent guitar lead in golden number, let's throw it on half the songs here but it goes through 3/4s of the song instead of just like two sections and we'll also mix it so it's retardedly hard to ignore and also the melody isn't nearly as good as on golden number, that'll work"

in that respect this sounds way more like one of those one-man bm bands like Morphinist that's always melody oriented foremost, rather than a group of people actually writing music together.

lol I thought this was pretty good, even though its fairly one-dimensional and a bit overlong

I'm not going to lie. I liked this. The 'vocals' are my main issue with this album.

I'm the only other human being that likes this band. Mostly because I can't get enough Blackgaze.

Neither can Milo Yiannopoulos

I like blackgaze, it's just Deafheaven and Alcest are better.

I would say without a doubt every other blackgaze band I've heard other than this has made this look just awful in comparison

That's exactly what I imagined this album would amount to.

it doesn't have any of that crappy fake doomgaze tho, so that's a plus. And the vox are further back in the mix so they're less lulzy.
