Great review. This is definitely their weakest entry and a shame, because it's obviously their swansong.

Wasn't me. Great review & agree with a lot of your points, especially regarding the balance between their different styles. You've certainly explained this better than I ever could.

This is a fantastic review. I was almost done with the album when I read it and it made sense of everything I was feeling when listening

Note to myself (and anyone else interested I guess) : the one thing I would change about this review is the way I closed the fourth paragraph. I don't think my point there was so much about the way I like "experimentation in rock-based genres" as it was about the way I liked how Dillinger specifically did that, in the past. They had a way of bringing in strange/unpredictable elements and making them feel just right for the song. I can't fully articulate the idea rn, but I'll prob do a discog run soon to refresh myself and then fix up that paragraph.

I think they do that better here than on any of their other records lol. They’ve always seamlessly hopped around genres tho

interesting. always found it super herky-jerky and unnatural-sounding here

I think Fugue and whatever the third track is called are really the only clunky moments, and even they’re not bad. They just don’t really fit in imo.

Limerent Death, Low Feels Blvd, Honeysuckle, Nothing to Forget, and the title track are some of my favorite Dillinger tracks tho

Obv it’s their newest but I think the back half of their catalogue has aged beautifully. The production on their last two records is crystal clear without sounding too sanitized. Miss Machine sounds fucking rough to my ears these days, even Ire Works, which really is probably my favorite, has a few moments that immediately makes it feel dated.
