I replied to your comment about song ''Dreamer'' and all, but I don't know what happened, I lost it all...I'll try to re-answer you later.
As for ''In the Eye of The Storm'', I already listened to it couple of times. I think there are gems like ''Had a Dream'' but I need to give it another spin. Will give you my exact impression about it.

''I always considered the duo of Hodgson and Davies as one of the best duo of composers of prog ever.''
I couldn't agree more with you. I bet you know that they always sing their own songs (pretty much half and half), and I didn't mention their backing vocals and their vocal harmonies added here and there.
I feel the exact same feeling as you about the poppish ''Dreamer''. I almost hated the song because of its incessant airplay, but now it's all fine just like you. 'If Everyone Was Listening'' is not bad at all, but it's less immediate than the other songs.
About the difficulties of creating pop songs, I also agree with you. Supertramp have the knack in doing both pop and prog merged together. That's what makes them geniuses. They keep it simple with a fair dose of clever arrangements.
Here it is, I tried to recuperate all my ideas that I just lost.
Cheers man.

that's pretty much what makes of Supertramp one of the best bands ever: catchy songs with happy atmospheres merging with crude and deep lyrics along with some subtle instrumental touches that end up creating a sound richer than the one you see in most prog albums

You pretty much nailed the pop prog nature, SirLord.
I would add that prog in general presents as much dark atmospheres than happy ones, and we can find catchiness in both kinds. Imo, in a song (prog or other), the prime ingredient to succeed is the quality of the instrumental melodies and the vocal melodies and the depth of emotions. If the structures are very complex, most of the composers have to balance it with something that has a minimum of catchiness in order to captivate them ears.
I always like my prog when it's at least a little accessible through its complexity.

i could never 5 or 4.5 this solely because of the constant mid-tempo, but i do love it

Once more we agree. But it was perhaps because the pop and prog merged together so well that many prog fans never loved the group as it deserves.

I also agree with you dude. And the most obvious album that we can consider a perfect album, in terms of the mix of both things, is of course "Breakfast In America".

Since we talk about the solo album of Hodgson, did you saw his solo concert filmed live at Place des Arts in Montreal, Quebec on June 6, 2006? I have a copy of the DVD, and as I could see, it was great. The man revisited many of the great classics of Supertramp, with some few things of his solo career in between. He was almost alone on the stage. He had the help of only an artist.
If you saw it, tell me what you think about it.

Yeah, man. Probably you're right. We both, Jethro and me, are more in the vein of prog rock music, especially the symphonic side.

@e21; I found a series of 4 videos from Hodgson's show in Montreal; ''It's Raining Again'', ''Don't Leave me Now'', ''Dreamer'' (Yes yes, ''Dreamer'' again hahaha) and ''Easy Does It/ Sister Moonshine'' It seems we cannot find the entire show on youtube. Hodgson is top shape as always. Thanks anyway!
As for Hodgson's solo album, after two listens, I think I can give it a 4. The first and the last tracks are amazing...''Lovers in The Wind'' is a great ballad a la ''Lord is it Mine'' which is great.
Thank you for putting the album on the map.

It's a pity that isn't be possible to have all the live show. As I said before, I've the DVD and I can assure to you that Hodgson is really in top shape as always. The concert is very intimist and the communion between him and the audience ir really incredible.
I'm very glad you like ''In The Eye Of The Storm''. About the tracks, "Lovers In The Wind" is really a very pretty ballad in the same vein of many others created by him and is also one of my favourite tracks on the album. Besides that, I also highlight "Give Me Love, Give Me Life", one of the two epic tracks on the album, and is perhaps one of the most amazing, complex and progressive tracks ever made by him. Finally, "Only Because Of You", represents the emotional ballad on the album. It's the great highlight and the most prog track too. For my taste, it's perhaps the best prog ballad made by him, the ballad that Supertramp never recorded. This is why I love this guy so much. This is also why I said that this album maybe can considered somehow the lost Supertramp album.
About the rating, 4.0 is perfectly fair. This is also my rating. This time we are in agree. Ah, Ah, Ah,...
Chers dude.
