also lol @ everyone predicting this album to be just as good as Planet of Ice after that one single came out. pretty disappointed with this one, just kinda boring

man the riff on Tame Beasts is actually kinda annoying...might have to drop this to a 2.5 honestly

I think this is more or less on the same level as both Omni and IO (which I both liked), and since I don't expect them to ever top Beer Commercials, Pirates, or POI I'm perfectly ok with that.
Lghthouse, Last Kiss, Silver, Invisible and Robotic Hearts are all great songs. Give And Take is growing on me too.

Yeah, this is pretty average to good, but something about it draws me back to it. Invisible is such a great track, tho.

I think this album would be a lot better if "Call the Cops", "What about the boat?" and "Tame Beasts" weren't on it. Those are pretty bad tracks that also take away the flow..

agreed yeah especially those last two

I quite like Call the Cops actually, the chorus is fun.

i'm indifferent about it. a lot of this is okay but nothing stuck out other than 3 songs after 4 listens. it seems like it's well thought out and cohesive but all of the charm they had as a band POI and before is gone.

Their weakest record yet. Can't believe this is the same band that released Planet of Ice. Where's the energy, the riffs, the tight drums? It's like they doubled down on all the worst aspects of OMNI and IO and dropped every vestige of what made them an interesting original band in the first place. Pack it up boys.

I really liked it, it's got some nice riffs. Of course Planet of Ice is better, but as a standalone record I think it's damn solid.
"I can't help but think that if Minus the Bear had never existed and some random band named "The Bears" or something released this album (or any of these last 3 albums) as their debut, people would be much more positive in their views of the actual music being recorded." [2]

I disagree with your point that if a random band had released this record people would have been more positive about it.
I say: if that was the case, people would not even have heard about this. People only give this a try more because it's MTB.

yeah this would make a fine ep with silver, invisible, robotic heart, and lighthouse (all top-tier minus the bear), with last kiss, give and take, and erase tossed in for good measure.
the rest of the songs aren't worth a damn, though. they should wrap it up before they really hit rock bottom

if it was a 5 song EP this might be a 3.5 maybe 4

^^ I mean that's 7 out of ten songs you at least liked on some level. I'd call that a successful album.

Well, it's not bad but that's four songs that I really liked, three songs I find passable (entertaining at most), and three songs I never cared to listen to again.
"if it was a 5 song EP this might be a 3.5 maybe 4 "
Now that I think of it, all of their EPs are 7 songs long. If this was a 7 song EP it would have been somewhere between a 3.5/4 for me, and it would've made sense within their discography.

The problem is also the way the terrible tracks are placed on this album. If they were placed at 7-9 we could say: the first half is alright and the closer is great. but this way the whole album is just messed up.

agreed hard. the whole thing feels like a long edging session
track list goes like
1- good stuff
2- still good
3- boring (getting soft now)
4- awesome
5- crap (getting soft again)
6-fucking awesome
7- absolute dogshit (boner killed)
8- good
9- even better
10- finally able to cum

hahah. If Snider reads that edging comparison, he will probably feel ashamed, since he has always written lyrics to make love to. With real women.
