Aqualung is (along with TaaB) the album that we think of when it comes to Jethro Tull. It's their first album that leans more toward progressive rock. They abandoned the bluesy nature of their earlier releases, to focus in calm, folky acoustic songs brillantly balanced with prog flavour and hard rock riffage songs. At least three of the songs get frequent radio airplay even today, and for the most part, the rest of the music is straightforward and easy to follow. All like their other golden year albums, Aqualung remains timeless and very enjoyable even after more than 45 years.
Great review, friend.

One of the best Sirlord, indeed. However I prefer TAAB but this is a matter of personal taste, I think.

Yeah, I totally understand why most people prefer TAAB
I prefer this one cause I find it more consistent. Every song is amazing, even the shorter ones

Yeah, I can understand that too. Both are completely different works. One has only one track, a real conceptual album and the other can be divided into two parts with several tracks. Anyway, we are in presence of two classics, undoubtedly.
Thanks for your participation dude.

Aqualung is kind of a transitional album and puts the table for TaaB, and it's a good starting point for someone new to Jethro Tull. But to me it's the same as e21, I prefer the epicness of TaaB. The ingredients of both are similar, but the progressiveness is more concentrated for Taab, where the music si simply amazing from start to finish. It goes from incredibly beautiful acoustic sections to medieval keyboard parts with some hard rock and folksy influences, just the kind of path that Tull took during their heydays.

I still want to add two more things. First, its concept. It's really amazing and is one of the most original and extraordinary ever. Second the cover art of the album. Despite I have also de CD version, I have the luck of have the original vinyl version of the album with the fake newspaper. And I can tell you that it's really an amazing original and cover.

Yeah, it's a well conceived concept album centered around that fictional genius kid named Gerald Bostock.
I need to say that the adding of Barriemore Barlow on drums made a major, positive difference in their lineup throughout the 70s. The man is so creative, technical and versatile, he's easily in my top 10 drummers.
As for the original TaaB version, I own one myself. The false newspaper is really a funny adding.

I also agree with your opinion about the quality of their new drummer on TAAB. The man is really great.
