@sowing yeah try some of his songs from when he used to write, well, songs rather than diary entries over music, Red House Painters are fantastic

Love that this album is the equivalent of Tracy Emin's bed as far as Row is concerned

100% sure that people are rating this higher than it deserves to be because it's ridiculously long and therefore makes them feel like they're listening to an epic masterpiece rather than 10 volumes of incredibly mundane diaries

Boney - good to see you are keeping to your 'one track a day' program

Yeah I'm keeping with it for now, I think it's working because it allows me to really focus on each song whereas if I were to listen to the whole thing it would be a more passive listen. I'm enjoying the songs individually for the most part but I can't help but feel they'd get dreadfully boring over 130 minutes. We'll see what my opinion is once I've worked through them all. No matter what though this won't put me off from checking Kozelek's other material.

"lyrics acting as an indictment of coastal liberalism’s worst instincts"

"modernist, narcissistic rambling"

"cantankerous fare, motivated by solipsistic observations rather than worldly affairs"

"feels like Sun Kil Moon’s purest moment yet"

"session musicians provide a certain discreteness that allows Kozelek’s words ample space to explore the minutiae of the mundane"

"akin to James Joyce in depth and understanding"

Really?

Finally put this album on. Just wanted to get familiar with some of his other stuff. Only heard the first two songs on my commute and can already tell I'm going to be into this . Has a nice, full sound.
