Both of the Road Salt albums are really good. They're just not the PoS I love. Luckily with the new album they returned to their classic sound.

Nice review. Def a very strong album. I have always found the vocal to be mixed in to soft. Unfortunately the remixed version of this isn't any better, supposedly there's hardly any difference to the original version....

I like your writing but the fact that you comment on a 14 year old album saying that PoS are one of today's leading prog-acts sounds a bit weird.... Do you mean today as 14 years ago?

No, when I mean today, I want to say albums made since the 90's. Bands who are in activity and that were formed in the 90's. This is more a language about prog. The classic period of prog was in the 70's. In the 80's there was a big problem for prog with the advent of punk in the end of the 70's, with few great things made in prog. Of course thre are many exceptions but in general this is right. So, in short, I want to mean bands and albums that appeared since this new era of prog, essentially in this century.

I don't know. Maybe with the time. I need to check it again. In any case 4.5 is a rating very close to it. I'll see it.

@ Jethro

About RS albums:

I've no doubt about the quality of the albums. I gave to both 3.5. The problem, as you said, is that they have very little in common with the other previous albums. Maybe ksoflas is right. Daniel could have a side project with this kind of sound and songwriting. Then, we could appreciate them for what they are. Maybe you're right too. Hallgren and Hermansson could have left the band because of that virage Daniel has taken. How I feel the absence of them and of Langell.

About "Remedy Lane":

Thanks for the compliment and yes there are so many gems on this album. In my opinion this is a perfect album without weak points and with great variety and consistency. I'm glad you consider this album your favourite from the band. This isn't common. The majority consider "The Perfect Element" their favourite, even my both sons. Anyway, with such positive considerations, maybe you can change your rating to 5.0. Who knows? Ah, Ah, Ah,...

Cheers my friend.

e210013, how old are you? I'm asking because I was surprised to see you have two sons that are probably around my age (22).

I'm not a lady so I'm going to tell you. I'm probably the elder member on Sputnik. I'm 58 years old. As you can see I've many km of prog and also of other kind of music too, on my feet already. My youngest son has the same age as you and my elder has 26. Surprised? I'm a kind of your father here. Ah, Ah, Ah,...

Cheers.

Nice Mythodea. Probably now you can understand many of my references on my reviews and comments. I became listening to good music in 1974 with the age of 16. So, as you can see I'm somehow a son of prog. I lived in the golden age of prog. So, I'm very close to it because it represented my introduction to the great music.

Damn, dude, that's great. I wish I could experience such a lush music era like that. Of course there's plenty to listen to nowadays, but, yeah, not gigantic things as of now. I've been conscious about the music I listen to for the past 7 years and I can think of only a few records I could consider groundbreaking.

Here I go, the third elder known from the site. I'm soon gonna hit 54, and I'd need the authorisation of the actual second user to reveal himself. I have a son who is 19. Just like e21, I grew up with progressive rock, so I'm a pure proghead me too. I gave up the popular music my parents were into, and so in 1976-77, I was introduced to the big names of prog (and rock and roll as well) by some oldest brothers of some of my friends, and I never looked back since then. Of course, the 80's was a dark period for prog, so I started to expand my musical palette to some new wave, alternative rock and jazz fusion as well. I approached Neo-Prog as well but to a lesser extent.

In the 90's, there has been a prog revival and since then, I totally renewed with prog which was called modern prog. Of course, I now listen to much more music, thanks to Sputnik.

@ e21, without hesitating, I give a 5 to Remedy Lane. It's the album I have the most pleasure to listen to. Album is really busy and full of surprise. There is a lot going on. The Perfect Element is a close second. I find that one as melodic as Remedy Lane, but there is a lack of meat and climax when compared to the other one.

And I have to say that I miss their first lineup big time as well. Especially Langell. What a dynamic and powerful drummer he was.

I totally agree about Langell. His playing is sorely missed indeed.
