i really miss the nocturnal, more contemplative mood from III on this. Also not a fan of vocal tracks, it's like adding vocals to Explosions In The Sky

Totally agree size, I never appreciated this one. I love what they have developed with II and III, and to me this almost sounds like a different band.
You ever jammed Matthew Tavares and Leland Whitty - Visions? 2020 album done by two BBNG members, very different from what we were used to with them

Yeah, really a shame. I love III so much.
Is it anything like III or something completely different?

Album Rating: 2.5
It's totally different, they totally let go of any hip hop or electronic influences. It's a straight-up jazz album.

Ok, sounds better than this even just on paper. Will look into it soon

Nice ! It's my fave 2020 jazz so far

How do you like Kamasi Washington? Tried listening to The Epic (even just Disc 1) but it was kinda hard to get into it, even though it is considered to be accessible by jazz standards.
And i usually like the crazy jazz antics found a lot in 70s King Crimson

Not a huge Kamasi fan tbh, I find The Epic to be quite dull lol
Visions isn't a crazy jazz record, it takes more influence from spiritual jazz than 70s jazz fusion

OK fair enough, he does get a lot of love though, and not from a dissimilar crowd, given his features in Hip Hop

I prefer Kamasi as a feature than as a solo artist tbh

Can't really say something on this since i barely know his stuff, but his feature on RTJ 3 was pretty solid

Does anyone know some artists that do similar music like II or III (instrumental only please)?

No fucking idea, but if anyone has got an answer I'm interested too!

Heck yeah. III in particular is so unique and innovative, that nothing that is supposedly similar in terms of artists has piqued my interest.

I haven't found anything quite like their other stuff, sadly.
You could try Mouse on the Keys - The Flowers of Romance. It's jazz fusion, but instead of hip hop influence it has math rock elements. Idk. Worth a shot.
|
| |
I've yet to find anything that scratches the itch that III does. This one was such a letdown

math rock influence? brb

I will always love these guys for their interpretations of Tyler's early stuff.
