Dumb Kids initially did nothing for me one way or the other. I think I realized I loved it when I was washing the dishes and I just burst out singing "Weeerrrrree weeeee onnnlyyyyy plaaaaayying like DUMB KIDS!". The chorus is awesome and the ending that incorporates the bridge lyrics is a nice pay off.

She speaks the language might be my favorite track they've put out in a decade, but the rest of the songs didn't really grab me as standouts.

This isn't really doing anything for me at the moment. Really loved Burials, though.

I feel like I'm trying to like this album, which is a little bit how I felt with Burials, but this is just hard for me to get into at all.

I feel like no one here is giving She Speaks The Language any recognition, it feels like the ultimate post-STS AFI track. Easily their best song out of these past 2 albums and perhaps one day may be considered one of their overall best. The chorus and bridge really get me.

And if Get Hurt had some more passion in the vocals and Above A Bridge just had a different chorus altogether they would be vastly improved.

I wish White Offerings just went harder. It doesn't develop even remotely making it one of the laziest things I've ever heard from this band. It had so much potential too.

I also think this album isn't getting as much credit instrumentally so I'm glad you touched on that. These guys have done some super neat stuff here and I keep finding new things each listen.

Just some thoughts. The AFI fanboy within me can't see this ever being a 4.5 but who knows. It's like a 4.1 or 4.2 for me now.

Yo you're right man.

Let's keep it real, sputnik: Jade brought the ruckus this time. Like, that dude knows no music theory, he can't read notation for shit, but dude has crafted some of the most memorable guitars in all of punk music, straight up.

See: "Malleus Malleficarum," "Narrative of Soul Against Soul," and "God Called in Sick Today" intros, like mad shit on All Hallows and TAOD, "The Leaving Song Pt. II" intro, "Dancing Through Sunday" solo, basically everything after "The Great Disappointment" on STS, their "Ziggy" cover, "Rabbits...," etc.

I'm fine keeping it at a 3.5, still good replay value for the "shuffle" feel of it

@Hep I didn't know that Jade doesn't know any music theory, thats pretty interesting. Also every song you named, you're right. Fucking nasty guitar intros

Yeah I had no idea about Jade not knowing any theory.

I'd love to see him in another band, preferably something hardcore.
