"but listening to a full album of this guy's vocals set to a broadway style musical is getting on my last nerve. Hoping this will be one of those things that I find irritating at first and then end up loving."

yeah it got on my nerves quick, just so over dramatic

dont have the patience to give it another listen

I think the key here is as I said before that they're not taking themselves too seriously with this, it's an exercise in melodrama and maximalism. Doesn't mean you have to like it though of course.

Granted I've only spun it once so far and the in-your-face nature of this makes it seem as if it will likely be a slider rather than a grower but we'll see.

"Foxygen, for a lack of a better word, have never really followed up on their promises"

"have never really followed up on their promises" =/= a word

I mean I don't think the term "in a word" necessarily needs to refer to exactly one word but "to be blunt" should work just as well.

having a hard time deciding whether this is genius or stupid, its definitely foolish to write this off as not having any musical value at all cuz that's clearly untrue, I guess the question is whether it's too much...

That's kind of where I'm stuck for now too, for the moment at least I'm enjoying it but I wouldn't be surprised if that changed soon to be honest.

I really do enjoy this band, but they've got me wondering where the line between homage and theft is...

Tracks like Avalon I REALLY need to be in a mood to enjoy. Shit is a hug hunk of cheese with those background vocals.

Man there was a time where I aggressively listened to underground shit, I'm still getting friend requests from random Russian people wanting me to like their crappy DIY bands

Completely unrelated to the music, just feelin pressured by the Russkis
