"totally kill all momentum and energy"
that's nothing new to this band though. that said, the step they took here isn't my flavour. I'd actually like em to follow that grunge-core thing they flirt with.

Really didn't like inertia in dreams that much on the last album but honestly bleeding in the blur is probably the best song on this album

i'd like to think nothing could be worse than their last album and i don't want to listen to this to find out

Their last album had momentum at least. This feels like it's trying to do too much with too little if that makes sense. Like... Also we wanna be industrial but we're just gonna use creepy sfx and darkwave synth or something. Also 90s metalcore but only the discord sludgy breakdowns. Also it would be really cool to be a hardcore band but extremely few and far between punk parts with a tough guy mentality should do it!

Yeah. Basically everything you've said. There's like no fast parts on this.

i'm so sick of the way all these balloucore bands use feedback

There was one or two dbeats and one short blastbeat part otherwise there really no punk on this at all.

wtf that transition in kill the creator is beyond awful

I agree, the feedback that comes out of his studio sounds almost canned at this point.
|
| |
okay so i took the band's bait and decided to listen to a couple of tracks and it turns out they actually can get worse. rather than wannabe staccato sludge now they're apparently trying to be nu-metal with even MORE random transitions than usual

i'm so sick of the way all these balloucore bands use feedback
omg this is the first time someone has said this other than me
balloucore bands and their pseudo-diy feedback bullshit makes me hate everything

I mean I love heaps of feedback in pretty much any song, but I don't like how it sounds the same on every Ballou record. Like, it should be unpredictable.
|
| |
Feedback doesn't work with Ballou's over-produced and highly polished production

I remember when he production seemed really raw, but on his most recent projects in the past few years bands do just sound unrealistically pristine and just so beefed up. Like what do they even really sound like? Shit, he recorded Full of Hell's new LP. I hope it isn't super sterile.

I think the best feedback I've ever heard was on black mask's 7"s
|
| |
feedback works well in lo-fi/underground/diy hardcore, noise rock, experimental noise stuff, etc.
it can even work in death and black metal
but in the hands of kurt ballou or any other producer that makes things super clean--it makes no sense

dude obviously it works well in those areas. I'd agree that music in this or a similar style shouldn't be so clean, not cuz it makes no sense--if you like it super sterile, then ok--but it loses certain aspects of what makes it "cool"
|
| |
that's more or less what i was trying to say
|
| |
bleeding in the blur was ass and forever was sick as fuck, only listened to kill the creator once and i thought it was good but im gonna have to give this a thorough listen when i get home

yea at this point it's a drone to say sterility sucks in most music
