" I feel like you were negged by trolls"

pos.

"It is clear that Killer Mike's newfound fame as an "activist" has poisoned his music. Both artists once made abstract, anger-filled music about the government that was like reading a dystopian fiction book by George Orwell. Now they are much more blunt and crude, throwing around lame political statements that basically all boil down to "I don't give a fukk, break stuff!" "

Agreed.

Weren't you disputing that exact idea in that conversation we had yesterday?

No, you misunderstood me. I was disputing your pearl-clutching outrage and the supposed connection between this album and a vile hate crime. I still think you can't make the causal link at all. But it doesn't mean I think that they haven't gone of the deep end with a lot of these lyrics.

This review suffers from way too much political opinion pieces and not enough music reviewing. I agree with some of what you're saying, some of it I don't - but that's largely irrelevant, as it should be for you when you approach reviewing a 'politically charged' album. Your arguments about how well they convey their message, their rapping, the quality of the lyrics and the beats etc. are all strong points, you really didn't need to inject so much of yourself and your own views into an RTJ write-up. That's my view anyway, for the most parts it's well written in a sentence by sentence way, but the overall flow is broken by all the ranting, the ad-hominem directed at the artists, and this generally confrontational and argumentative vibe you put forth. Maybe it's just me but I can't take a reviewer seriously when they disrespect the artist they're reviewing and are so obvious with their bias.

So when I approach reviewing a "politically charged album" I shoudknt discuss the politics?what?

What you call bias I call common sense.

I never said this album caused the hate crime. I specifically said numerous times that it's all just part of the same stew of stupidity, and that they have a moral obligation to stop fueling the fire.

I disagree (in part). But this is entertaining if hyperbolic, and fairly well-written, have a pos!

Review was enjoyable, pos even if the (often reasonable) complaints have next to no impact on my enjoyment of this.

"I don't give a fukk, break stuff!"

Yeah, it's that sort of album, they may be rebels without a clue but all this album needed was the language of rebellion to work (however ham fisted the message).

Run the Jewels is back to the pleasure of those teenage kids at Coachella who don't know who Outkast is.
