it just seems like a chore to get through. the ship fluctuated a lot more in style and it made for a compelling listen, this seems to be a completely different release as in it seems more cohesive.

i'm more excited to play with app than to actually listen to this, whenever artists tie outside interactive gimmicks to their albums it always seems like more focus went into the gimmick.

I mean, either way, you're essentially listening to the album

the app just happens to be infinite compared to this being more for public consumption

if this seems like a chore to get through, then I'd just stick to the classic Eno albums then idk

Fair enough, I'm definitely giving it a listen. I'm not the most dedicated Eno fan but I obviously appreciate his music; Thus far, one of my most memorable musical memories was, with all lights turned off and eyes closed, to listen to the Discreet Music title track fully. The way the song remains the same throughout in the way a calm beach shore does when you observe it, it's really compelling and it really gives this type of wallpaper ambient room to manifest itself.

Glad you reviewed this one Frip, good review, pos'd.
First thing I listened to this year and I totally phased out doing so.

it's certainly more hypnotic than some of his more known ambient works, that's for sure

I must say, I've really come to enjoy your writing style. your syntax is cool and restrained, with every sentence adding value to the passage. it's a pleasure to read your reviews. nice work.

I'll give this a listen.

thanks man, to be quite honest i've always wondered if the style I write in is descriptive enough or not. I don't exactly like giving too much away in my writing, but I want to say enough in which I can give someone an idea of what the material is like, but not to a point where it just spoils it for them. I want people to be surprised by what they hear, or at the least, to be interested.

Imo your strength as a writer shows prominently in your ability to balance brevity and descriptive verbiage, with the former being something you are exceptional at. when I read reviews, all I want to know is whether or not an album is worth looking into and why. a transcription of the music is what turns me away from reading a review top to bottom.

That's actually a good point Ashen. I wanted to get more into reviewing this year and what you said is very true. A review should motivate a listen.

A major point in trying to write something is to not necessarily dress it up with a bunch of pretty words for the sake of making it look sophisticated, but in the intent of giving some sort of form to what I'm trying to describe. I'd be lying if I said I didn't find it incredibly difficult sometimes.

"let me get this straight, so every time I listen to this on AppleMusic it's different? Or did I get something wrong? And if that's true, how is that possible and is this the first album to ever do that and can this technique be applied to metal? (I'm guessing not drums)"

No, I think it's the app that does that. This album is static.
Used to know this woman who made money out of songwriting and used a program to create melodies and rhythms, that was ages ago, was basic poppy stuff but ended up being used. Semi-random music generation been done in some way for years especially in computer games. Probably Eno put his own sonic imprint on the generation process here i'm guessing.

Didn't get anything out of this. tbh even 2.0 feels generous. Good review though.

here's the link that gives a bit of insight into how the app makes this endless

it's not the first time Eno and Chilvers collaborated to make an app however this is probably the one that will leave more of an impression

hopefully this explains a bit more.
