I don't like to throw this adjective around, but some parts of 12 are amazing for how emotional and cathartic they can be. However I find that 12 is double edged weapon for this album, I often feel like the rest just doesn't compare to it.

By the way, a possible correction: aren't all the clean vocals performed by Renkse, Rainroom included?

Funny, I find 12 to be the weakest track here actually. Still rules of course.

And yeah, I think Renkse performed all the clean vocals here.

12 is the most interesting track on the album, I feel. I think you can notice and experience the essence of every track well before reaching the same point on 12. As for Renkse, my CD's notes simply say he's "drums & clean voice," so that probably does mean all clean vocals. I only knew for sure that he was the lead on Day, so I only mentioned that song.

12 sounds like a bunch of left over riffs they had stuck together. a lot of those riffs are awesome but it flows about as well as dj khaled

So it's been brought to my attention that Skyrim contains a Katatonia reference in one of its books. I might need to pop the remaster in...

its so funny how patrician everyone makes themselves out to be here on sputnik when it comes to music, but their taste in any other media is laughable at best

especially with people touting skyrim and fallout 3 as the best rpg ever made, like, if you enjoy that stuff, more power to you, but to those of us who used to play proper rpgs back in the 90s, those games are to the genre kinda what slipknot is to metal. watered down, overly simplistic pieces of shit with no depth

I'M JUST SAYING, NO H8 OK

Another failed attempt at sarcasm on my end.

But since we're on the topic, just because people are enamored by something that might be considered "watered down" to some, doesn't automatically mean their opinions should be scoffed at. Heck, I work with someone in his 40's who's gamed since infancy, he loves Skyrim and Fallout 4 despite how much they've diverged from their roots. Besides, not everyone is going to be hard into every form of media.

Like you said, no hate.

"Heck, I work with someone in his 40's who's gamed since infancy, he loves Skyrim and Fallout 4 despite how much they've diverged from their roots"

if you want a more balanced opinion, they're not entirely terrible, but their greatest weakness is that they're not good rpgs, they're good sandboxes for roaming around a huge world and doing fuckall

if youre into that sort of thing thats cool, hell if you enjoy them for any reason thats also cool, i just think its ridiculously funny how serious some people take themselves over music and then have such shallow taste in other media (and of course react very defensively when told so)

I enjoy what I enjoy. If I get really into it, like I am with Katatonia, then that's simply my thing for the time being. I'm no musical expert by any stretch of the imagination, but if I can readily get more into a band or album, I will and subsequently attempt to express what I think and feel about it.

I'm fine with people having different opinions than me, and even encourage it since I've got some unpopular views (personally can't stand the Uncharted games), but I think people get defensive if they feel they're being talked down to as if they can't have the opinion that something (like a game) is fantastic, and at that point it may or may not be miscommunication between the two parties. Person A saying "I love X game, it's amazing!" while Person B says "that game is mediocre" can sound like "I'm not that crazy about it" to Person B, but like "your opinion is wrong" to Person A.
