@arcade
I thought Change, Neighbours and the title track in particular had good flows. The beats aren't groundbreaking (pretty typical jazz rap ish) but I like how they maintain a consistent mood throughout the record. Opinions are opinions I guess.
Features (or the lack thereof) wouldn't necessarily make this album better or worse.

just why man. this is prob a 2.5 for me idk it's got some great tracks but the lows are really really bad

and yeah Change, Neighbors and the first two tracks are the best along with the title track. so 5/10 good tracks and 5/10 trash tracks that's a 2.5 yep

fair enough man, I dig Deja Vu a lot too even though it's a partial Views bite. I figured a 1 deems an album completely meritless, which seems crazy harsh for something as harmless and inoffensive as this.

"Features (or the lack thereof) wouldn't necessarily make this album better or worse."
Yes it would. It would be much easier to listen to because Cole is boring as all fuck throughout this whole album. If any album from this year needed a pointless half-assed Kanye feature, it was this one.

I don't hate Kanye or anything but it would be really out of place imo

I've never heard a J Cole song but I know he sucks [2]
music for suburban white people and #woke black people and the 3 people you went to school with that turned into local rappers
|
| |
Also find it real annoying when J. Cole fans say "Oh J. Cole is better then (insert rapper) because he made an album(s?) without features and produced all the beats himself" as if that somehow enhances the quality of his music and doesn't make it all sound exactly the same.

Seriously, I have zero clue what you guys are listening to. Shit was weak imo, compared to Forest Hills Drive. I mean, J Cole is not good enough a lyricist to make an album that doesn't have good beats, this album is lacking hard in that area. You can't go from making an album as interesting as Forest Hills where thers tons of small things to enjoy and the you come here and it's strictly based on lyrical content, and feels like he rushed this release. I wouldn't give it a 1.0, I think thats a little crazy, but like 3.0? 3.5?

Btw, Ab Soul dropped a record that makes this one look like a pile of doo doo
|

I was expecting new ab-soul to suck for some reason but it actually rules yeah

The review was good, but you didn't really mention anything that puts this release apart from other mainstream releases this year. I'd like to know how this is different.

Yeah, I feel like most of the negs come from differing opinions. Oh well, this site is mostly immature trolls anyway. Haha.
|

I didn't neg or pos btw. I feel like it's not a bad review, but as someone who checked this out already, it doesn't convince me to take another look at it either. I get neg'd all the time, so I take my neg's pretty surious ;) lol

@PatientlyDead, thanks, but what about the replay value and the compelling narrative I mentioned? I also mentioned that it keeps your attention.

I was taking the negs seriously too, then I saw some of the immature idiots in the comments. Then I was like: "Oh, that's why." Also, you need a review to convince you to listen to something again? XD
