yeah he is. I'll wait to see converge next year after I saw them twice since No Heroes was released.

As much as I think No Heroes pales in comparison to their earlier works, the songs they play live from it go down so well.
Especially Vengeance.
I hope they play Trophy Scars next week though. That is easily the best track form that record.

I actually like this more than Jane Doe right now.

I switch between this and WFCC as my second fave Converge album after Jane Doe.
Jane Doe will always be better but YFM is amazing.

This is the only converge I have and have heard all the way through. I really like it but one thing I dislike about it compared to the other converge I've heard is Kurt Ballou dosn't do as many crazy lead lines in the music and tends to just stick to complex chord patterns. I mean the awesome leads are still present like towards the end of dropout and in eagles become vultures but theres just not as many. I'm listening to this again and there are a lot more sweet leads than I remember. This Message Edited On 07.04.07

Kurt Ballou is one of the most inventive guitarists in hardcore/metal. The ending to Drop Out is gobsmackingly good

Yeah Kurt is amazing. He's one of my favorite guitarists. Just from what I've heard he "shreds" more in other Converge albums. By the way can someone send me wolves at my door? My AIM is chimera908This Message Edited On 07.04.07

God, this album is so good. Their darkest work by far, which is why I dig it so much. Definitely my second favorite after Jane Doe. Listening to this and Jane Doe just makes me be more and more underwhelmed by No Heroes. The album is just kind of meh.

Grr. Jane Doe is not their best!

But it's soooo good.

This is their best album imo, but that's probably because it was the one that got me into them.
Just a truly stunning piece of work by who is now my favourite band of all time.
I'M SEEING THEM TWICE THIS WEEK, OH MY FUCKING GOD! xo

In response to Hbp - have you heard Petitioning the Empty Sky?
That almost equals Jane Doe imo.

I think Petitioning is really overrated. It was great when I first listened to it, but it bores me now. Jane Doe has continued to stun me for about 4 years now. Jane Doe is truly a genre bending and epic piece of music. Petitioning is pretty standard metalcore.
Jane Doe is their best, period.

Truth.
Jane Doe is one of most complete pieces of music ever. But I still marvel at Petitioning the Empty Sky, just to a lesser extent.
This and When Forever Comes Crashing are still fave albums of mine though.
Oh and seeing them again this summer in Southampton will rule. Hopefully I'll meet all of them again (only one I haven't met is Ben).

Nate is a really good bassist actually. He never gets drowned out by Kurt either.
This album is on par with WFCC and PTTES for me. Very dark, very brutal and very honest.
