just downloaded the dark dark bright and had a cathartic exp listening to it in my room with the dark light from the grey day filtering in. Want to right my first review on it possibly. The discussion for an album like that has endless depth and theres so many special little parts i want to write about. this album has some stand out moments but it just doesnt create that flowing masterpiece feel of tddb

(shameless plug) I wrote a song yesterday that in hindsight turned out to be pretty heavily inspired by this band. and in particular parts of this album:

Fucking gorgeous artowork on your bandcamp minty! Love the birds swapped to a yellow color with the grey sky aesthetic. The song is pretty interseting around the 1:30 mark you begin to add those xylophone?(LOL dont know what instrument it is) notes in the back would love that motif to carry in the song a bit more cuz they sound very nice. Also love that the climax isnt too in your face or crazy it just swells naturally. Def gives me some snippets of TWBF vibes. WIsh the spoken words were a bit more audible but overall really cool shit! maybe post this in r/post rock?they seem like a pretty open community for giving feedback and just for sharing stuff cool stuff though minty

Though the production on Say Aye is a little bit trash...the song itself just gushes such earnest emotion i cant help but consider it an album highlight.

It sounds kinda weird yeah
This blatantly rips off Sigur Ros in some places but I love Sigur Ros so whatever

Thanks Momentai for checking it out and giving your thoughts, I sincerely appreciate it. I could have gone on longer on that motif (glockenspiel btw but you were close) perhaps but all the songs on this EP had the self-imposed limitation of being written, recorded and (for the most part) mixed in one day. I did this because if I allow myself to work on a song without such restrictions then it will end up taking years and never be finished. I have an album I've been working on for quite some time where the songs range from 7 minutes to 17 minutes, but the process of getting it done is pretty endless so I did this EP as a sort of side project to keep me motivated and productive rather than spinning my wheels indefinitely. So all of that is to say that there are parts that could have gone on longer and perhaps would have if I had spent more time on them, but then if that were the case they'd probably never see the light of day lol. Oh and the spoken word stuff... the words do have meaning but I like to keep them pretty unintelligible so as not to direct the listener to any specific meanings and leave them ambiguously interpretable. Also, in honesty I like the tonal effect of spoken word and the diversity it gives, regardless of the meaning of the words.
Thanks again for checking it out!

Oh and the yellow birds on the artwork was my girlfriend's idea and doing. She is a graphic designer in the fashion industry and is so inspirational to me.

Dude thats unbelievably cool. Do you have any tips on staying motivated during projects. Its something I struggle with a lot. Also have you heard the band The Newfound Interest in Connecticut? Some of your guitar parts reminded me of sections of their album though your song was pretty bright overall compared to the darkness of that band haha. And thats so awesome about your girlfriend helping out with the art. it looks seriously fantastic.

Thanks FullOfSounds for checking it out!
Honestly I'm not the best person to ask when it comes to staying motivated, as I have a real problem with it too. I've had the same pieces of music floating around for the last 2 or 3 years that I've still not finished. I've gone through so many demo versions and it's so daunting to try to finish them that more often than not I just never feel motivated to return to them. If I don't have that album finished by the end of 2017 then I'll be very disappointed with myself. Saying that, I think putting this EP out has motivated me to push forward, which hopefully will work out well for me.
Checking out Newfound Interest now, thanks for the tip. Sounds really great. Love discovering new music like this.
Edit: Oh man The Newfound Interest in Conneticut are fucking good. Thanks for this. Seriously never heard them before but they're right up my alley.

Thanks, I will post stuff on Sputnik in the future. Yeah they're great, and they go beyond emo too. Check out Boys Life if you haven't already, they're like Newfound Interest sort of but more rough around the edges.

Holy Moly Boys life are great. Departures and Landfalls fits the tonal aesthetic iv been craving right now so well. Been shuffling through darker things like TNIIC and the uplifting power fo stuff like this and the dark dark bright.

"Do you have any tips on staying motivated during projects. Its something I struggle with a lot."
I make sure to work everyday even if I don't want to, and even if it's for 5 minutes just to keep up the habit. I think a lot of it is figuring out how to work when you're not necessarily inspired, because if you only work when you're inspired you're probably never going to finish anything
