Checked the t/t and I don't know how to feel about that chorus. It's going to be stuck in my head tomorrow morning, isn't it

It's one big, Kraken-catching hook!

They certainly sound much closer to their power and speed metal influences on this album. I don't think it's as consistent as Mirror of Souls, but it is well worth the purchase and lots of plays, as several individual songs are easily some of my favorites of the year, even with so much great competition.

The opening of Wonder of it All has some serious Mastodon riffing going on

I haven't heard much Mastodon, but it sounds like good ol' thrash to me.

On reflection it doesn't sound quite so similar

I think I would like this but I just can't get past the band description being "The debut album used as many as 70 vocal tracks at once! Further evidence of Matt's talent is that he made "Theocracy" all by himself. Theocracy's music is some of the most accessible, easily likable, and simultaneously best, in the power metal world."

It's just such an eye-rollingly grandiose description, haha. I'll give this a whirl soon enough.

lol idk who wrote that. There are layered vocals for a choral effect in many choruses, but it's not really a central feature.

Though sometimes I do enjoy a pretentious description if given by the band themselves. Like Gentle Giant's liner notes for Acquiring the Taste: "It is our goal to expand the frontiers of contemporary popular music at the risk of being very unpopular." haha

I know these guys and they're about as humble and laid back as any dudes I've ever met. Super nice guys
