Part of me really wants this to grow into my AOTY - it's an odd bod but stranger things have happened

How is it ranking compared to your other 4.5s for the year?
|
| |
Album Rating: 5.0
Too early to say. Still got the Cass McCombs at a 5 so for now that's top.
Albums secure at 4.5: Nick Cave, Bowie, Radiohead
Should be ok: Stimming, Niechec, Drive-by Truckers, Lambchop
At risk: Drones, The Veils

I bumped down the Danny Brown from a 4.5 to a 4 yesterday so I'm already starting to have a prune
I was thinking about my 'songs of the year' yesterday and it's been a really strong year in that regard, way better than last

Alas, yes, with the release schedule slowing down (in fact I think this Friday is the last day there's anything I'm anticipating before album releases pick up again come January/February), it's time to reconsider everything before making the final end of year list.

it's time for re-listens, y'all.
I got PUP right up there with Bowie as my secure top 2, but there's a lot of 4's from this year I need to give a re-listen see where they stand.

I was first listening to 'Garden of Delete' about this time last year I think and that became my AOTY so was hoping something would similarly come out of nowhere and topple the McCombs in the same way that album supplanted Poison Season last time - but I'm thinking Cass might be safe, really strong start to finish listen that one

The Sturgill Simpson is still holding out as my AOTY and will probably stay so, AMSP is right behind it, followed by Drive-By Truckers, and then Cass McCombs. Those are pretty set as my top 4, so barring that I discover any other heavy hitters when I go through some of the albums I missed that end up in year end lists. It'll be differentiating among my 4s that'll be harder.

I've got a tonne of 4s this year too yeah, not so easy
I'd say the Okkervil River and Richmond Fontaine are the top two of my current 4s

Richmond Fontaine is definitely up there. Other strong ones are Case/Lang/Veirs, William Tyler, and Lucinda Williams.

I'll try and check the Lucinda Williams before the 2016 deadline
