the new DGD was more thrilling that this tbh, and I'm not even a fan of DGD in the first place

This Side of Fate is so damn good. That outro solo is one of the best they've ever done.

I think the production is the main thing keeping this below Fortress for me. It just feels too muddy at times. Otherwise I think the songwriting is rock solid. The singles aren't a great representation of the album but they're catchy as hell and I'd take My Champion over All Ends Well on Fortress any day.

Does anyone else get a giddy feeling when hearing the beginning of Island of Fools? Damn those are some dirty riffs. Gotta love when Mark hits overdrive.

What makes that even better is that Myles is actually the one that came up with that riff, according to the interviews I've seen.

I fucking love Alter Bridge to death, but I think this is probably a step down in quality from Fortress, though it is also a different sound brought to the table here. Seems like they have meshed Myles Kennedy's Slash albums style and Tremonti's solo album style with Alter Bridge's sound. Decent stuff overall.

Here's how I rank the albums so far:

1. Fortress 9/10

2. Blackbird 9/10

3. The Last Hero 8/10

4. One Day Remains 7.5/10

5. ABIII 7.5/10

It'll always baffle me to this day why Blackbird is so highly regarded, Fortress is superior in essentially almost every way. Ain't gonna check this, the singles sounded like a big regression.

honestly, the Blackbird t/t is pretty much one of the main reasons why that album is superior in almost every way.

There's also some sweet songwriting across the board on it.

if you never cared about this band then you won't care about this album. it's not like it's going to change your overall opinion on them.

Dan listen to the Blackbird t/t and decide from there.

One track does not make an album. Only thing Blackbird has is the t/t (which is their best track) and better for sappy/happier moods. Fortress as an overall is so much more consistent and well written.
