"Does Kodama top Ecailles de Lune?"
Yes. Only by a bit though, and they're both 5s.
Great review.

"coulda swore I read somewhere that all the songs on this except Oiseaux de Proie had gibberish lyrics, but I can't seem to find that source now"
No; only Kodama and Untouched. They rest (aside from Onyx) have French lyrics.

Thanks guys, as wonderful as this is, this just can't top those watery(seriously can't find a better way to describe them) textures on Ecailles.

Love the album - but it's a bit too short. Take away Onyx and the bonus track their are only 5 songs. Good thing some are over 9 minutes long. Excellent review Mongi and thanks.

Teamster this is only 3 minutes shorter than Ecailles without the bonus track and longer then Souvenirs I'm pretty sure.
Also agreed with Mongi, nothing tops Ecailles but this certainly comes close.

Love the first two LPs from Alcest. I've heard this 5 times all the way through now and I am not understanding the love for this. Eclosion is the only track I can see myself coming back to. That one is amazing. Je Suis D'ailleurs is soo dull. And Untouched is just a build up to Oiseaux which is solid along with the title track but Je Suis and the filler makes this unengaging overall. I'm hearing less of the beautiful melodies of Souvenirs and Escailles and more simple chords washed out in reverb. I guess most everyone is hearing great atmosphere and feels carrying this thing but I don't hear substance. The band's tone is one of a kind and interesting for sure.
This just makes Harakiri in the Sky's (not directly comparable), and Sylvaine's new releases (incredibly comparable seeing as Neige and Sylvaine perform on each other's albums) seem that much better for this genre.
