Especially for their older material. I love Morningrise but i probably wouldn't give it anything above a 3.5.

yeah if i listen to opeth it's like 3 albums and I don't have any rated higher than 3.5

For me, everything from My Arms to Blackwater is either a 4 to a 4.5 and same with Damnation to Watershed, which is one of my all time favourites.

'Not surprised at the negs here tbh. For every person here who shits on Opeth, there's at least 3 who like to over-inflate an album's quality because it's Opeth.'
yes rationalize that the negs come from the score you gave it and not the review itself

some of the negs will be knee-jerk for sure, but considering some of the feedback this review has gotten, i wouldn't say it's superbly written either (again, i haven't read so i can't really comment).

I'm gonna ignore the fact that you inadvertently just put words in my mouth and go out on a limb and say that what you mentioned does happen. Maybe not frequently, but it happens.

i literally quoted your entire comment word-for-word

"a simple listen to Sorceress" - should this be "of Sorceress", or am I reading it wrong? In which case, I think the punctuation is a little awkward. I could be wrong, though.
"can't be accused of trying new things" - in my mind it reads "no new things", unless you mean that no new things were tried and therefore it can't be used as an excuse. If so, I think it could be expressed a little better.
"before Akerfeldt and co. certain feel" - is there a missing word here?
" a legitimate eastern folk song" - this is a nitpick, but is a legitimate eastern folk song and an homage the same thing? Also, should Eastern be capitalised, because you do it in the next line?
"Likewise, the production..." - this feels a bit awkward considering you were immediately before this listing off a few positives.
Sorry for the spam of criticism, it's a good review otherwise, just a few errors, I think. Pos'd!

One of the most awful records ever recorded. Tedious, melodramatic, monochromatic and downright BORING. Stephen and Mikael tag-teamed this album front to back with cliches of bygone progressive rock lore. Stephen was even upset at Mikael for being so derivative. Mikael sobbed for hours to save the friendship. Now, rumor has it they are recording another collab album that will feature members of Wu-Tang and King Crimson fame.
