"Okay, it is better than Colours for sure, which is awesome. I was afraid it'd just get even worse after that.

I'm not sure how it compares to MWS. I'd say it's more consistent, nothing here is as bad and cheap as Until My Last Breath, but I'm not sure any song here is as good as Anteroom of Death or Crimson Deep. Although the bookends are both pretty great.

No idea what to think of the hidden track. It is funny, but after the music faded out on Too Many, I was really hoping for an epic conclusion. Instead... whelp. Lal.

Gotta give it more time to see how the tracks age. I am hopeful now, though, because it has lots of creativity and experimentation, those are the albums which tend to get better with time."

I agree, its indeed much better than Colours In The Dark. Colours did have a couple of strong songs, but it was also filled with failed experiments.

Lol, I actually liked Until My Last Breath. xD As for the hidden track on Too Many ye, i was also a bit dissapointed. I thought she was building towards a epic conclusion at the end of the song. Lets just say that wasn't the case. I did have a good laugh though, so in a sense it worked.

Yep, this is a grower. Its also not that kind of album i would take into the bus. This one requires a careful listen to enjoy it fully, because it has so many different layers. I hope I managed to explain well why I thought this album deserved to get 5 stars.

To me it reads more like a 4, honestly. A 4.5+ for me has to do something really special, and you don't really describe what that would be.

I feel like I'm going to want to write my own review once I've listened to this more, but given that I've written reviews for MWS and WLB and never published them, I probably won't either with this one.

What do you mean by saying "do something really special"? For me the diverse set of instruments, great vocals, the succesful blend of different musical styles (mainly metal and classic) and the great lyrics justify the 5 rating. Ofcourse that would vary for each person.

You are making me curious. Why would you write one and then decide to not publish them? Not satisfied with the way they turned out? I did like your review on Colours In The Dark. I didn't agree with everything you wrote, but that doesn't say anything about the quality of the review.

Well, I'm obviously not saying that it isn't a 5 for you.

But the review mostly reads as... really solid... everything comes together nicely... some songs a bit weaker ... nice lyrics and blend of styles

I would say pretty much all of that about, for example, Oceanborn (except for the last part), and that's a 3.9 or 4.0 for me. A 4.5 just needs more, like really touching me on an emotional level, or be so fascinating that I want to listen to it over and over again. That doesn't come across.

And a 5, oh man, a 5 has to by mind blowing.

Might be just me, but I doubt it. If you showed just the review to someone while hiding the score, I don't think they'd guess that it's a 5.

Not satisfied with the way they turned out?

Ya. I'm a perfectionist. And writing negative reviews is so much easier than positive ones.

It kind of irks me, though, because now the only thing I've written about her is negative, but I like Tarja, I even like MWS which is critically panned on this site.

Thanks for pointing this out. I wonder how often you give a 5 then. Your standards seem to be so high.

They are probably good enough to post. Why wouldn't you? Worst thing that could happen is a bit of thrash talking from people who think your review sucks. I wouldn't care about that anyway. I'm willing to give them a read before you post them if you like.

Thanks for the offer. Maybe I'll come back t o you on that.

Back to this album, atm I dislike tracks 2, 3 and 10. The rest rules. Diva is fucking gorgeous.

Also I think the fact that she made an attempt to use harsh vocals is inherently awesome, even if the result isn't.

No problem, just let me know.

I kind of expected that these tracks would be a hit or miss for many people. I personally like them, but I did have to hear tracks 2 and 10 a couple of times. There's just so much going on on both of them. Did love both intro's right away though.
