"Could you give me some examples of bands that are very similar to Departures because I struggle to find ones quite like them. They have unique qualities to their music in my eyes (ears)."
Check out It Prevails. Specifically "Capture and Embrace," and "Stroma."
They're a little more traditional hardcore but still have immense melodic aspects to their music.
This is pretty great thus far.

this band is basically just another life long tragedy/defeater throwback but they're really damn emotive and i'm a sucker for this kind of music soooo

This has really grown off me unfortunately, not a fan of the screamed vocals when theres basically no variation in their delivery, like some clean vocs that transition into screams would have been nice, or some variation in intensity. When he's going 100% all the time it bores me a little, though I get how it could appeal to some.

no no no any clean vox would be a real buzzkill for me. i mean some more instrumental passages could be a nice fit but when it comes to music that relies so much on intensity, why would you try to add vocals that basically kill the intensity?

You see I don't find it intense, I find it droning. When the music in the background is relatively laid back as it is here in my opinion and the vocals are so intense it creates a odd disconnect that I don't enjoy. I want the music and the vocs to build and release when the lyrics are at their most meaningful. Admittedly I'm not well versed in the genre, so after a bit more research and experience the style may grow on me

Guys like converge do continually coarse vocals brilliantly as the music fits, and even they have sections where the yelps subside somewhat or alternate into a different style of scream, whereas here it feels a bit one dimensional to me

you should jam some post-rock skramz like city of caterpillar to get into the style
|
| |
need to jam that band as well still

in music like this the vocals are often very monotonous but i feel it's perfect to create a frustrated vibe

Planning on checking city of caterpillar asap. This, however, has grown off me so hard
