I was about to draw an unwarranted parallel with Geordie Greep (jokingly) because this has a bit of the same horniness, albeit less ridiculous and more classically erm poetic? Then again, the guy was barely out of adolescence, so it's almost expected. He can paint a vivid picture which is a rare skill, no doubt. Disclaimer: I haven't dug into the background behind the lyrics, so maybe that "horny" claim is unfair anyway idk.
I enjoyed the variety on this a lot more than Lorca. I doubt it touches the peaks of Star Sailor but there's certainly some gold buried here. The greater part of the middle segment starting with "Pleasant Street" is most striking thus far

forgot how good this is

the 5 song run from Pleasant Street thru Phantasmagoria is excellent. The t/t is very good, also. Proper enjoying this one. I'm certainly "getting it" more than Lorca.

he had such a fascinating career

1. Starsailor
2. Lorca
3. Happy Sad
4. Goodbye and Hello
5. self-titled
6. Greetings from LA
7. Sefronia
8. Look at the Fool
1-4 range from great to masterpiece. 5 & 6 are good and worthy of your time. 7 and 8 are tragic late-career "shoulda quit while he was ahead" type albums.

"Happy Sad" was next on my agenda, so good to know
I will circle back around to Lorca in an attempt to become a better person, but I can't force these things

I'm a bit surprised you've not been more receptive to it. I know you've alluded to "not getting it" before (rubbish, give yourself more credit) but in that sense, I'd wager that STARSAILOR is a "harder" album to "get" or whatever and you digested that without issue!
Honestly LORCA is mostly vibes and if it's simply not ur vibe then yeah it can be a tough sell.

It was mostly a follow-up of Dewi's claims in not being clever enough to understand Lorca (hmm, actually think it started with me saying so re Star Sailor's t/t).
In principle I agree Star Sailor (the album) should be the tougher nut to crack. I just need to find the right Lorca moment. Leave it with me.

I guess you're right. LORCA's one of those....like...SOUNDTRACKS FOR THE BLIND type albums. Dark room, headphones, no distractions, need to let it 'consume' you - once it "hits", it hits and then you'll be forever chasing that high.

No Blue Afternoon, Tec?

Oh yeah wtf how did I miss that one. I'd put that one fifth, solidly behind GOODBYE/HELLO but also solidly ahead of the self-titled debut.

I’m not bumping Star Sailor (again!) so I’m here to say Lorca is growing on me (finally) and I would place it above this one and maaaaybe eventually beside Happy Sad. The subtleties and more dialled back vibes are starting to pay off on repeated listens.
I need to check Blue Afternoon next
