I think Maps took a little longer to click which is why I think this is just slightly better, but to be fair both albums are incredible.

"I think Maps took a little longer to click"
Huh - I feel the opposite. I feel like Maps had plenty of hooks and this one is just less catchy.

Maps is filled with so many sing-along moments, it's bliss. But I think there's just a lot more to work with here I guess? I think they're both flawless albums but this I think is more fleshed out and detailed than Maps. And Rude Goldberg Variations is a better instrumental than Suspicious Waveforms because of it, if only by a slight margin.

My God this is so good. It's so much more cohesive than their previous record. It traded catchy moments for much better overall composition (that can be pretty damn catchy in its own right).

I do feel some of the songs overstay their welcome a bit but other than that this is golden. It's like a mix between Coheed and Cambria, The Mars Volta, and The Dear Hunter.

It's a bit of a chore to listen to all the way through but I don't think any individual song is too long, maybe Psychopomp doesn't need that weird monologue at the end but other than that I'm actually considering giving this a 5
