Switchfoot is such a frustrating band these days. There are legitimately awesome moments on this album where they dive into experimental territory and it really pays off, but as a whole it sounds like they're trying to appeal to one too many audiences. The times where they've refrained from catering to specific markets (Nothing Is Sound and Oh! Gravity), they've made their best work. I know they have the talent and ability to make another great album, but every time out they play it so damn safe.

Yeah I want to see them push musically. Some of the nicest dudes on the planet though.

the fuck this still exists?

Hated Fading West hard. I hope this is better.

Can't remember a thing about Fading West, however like the reviewer I love the sound of Beautiful Letdown and especially Nothing Is Sound (which is easily one of my favorite poppy rock albums of all time.) Will give this a listen soon.

Forgot this band existed, but I'll give this a shot a bit later.

Two mods commenting on an irrelevant band. RIP Sput

Nothing is Sound was definitely surprisingly good. There was some good stuff on Oh! Gravity, and TBL was good (though I'm sick of it now), but haven't liked much else since then.

The majority of everything they've put out since "Oh! Gravity" has reeeeally been low quality. This is a huge step forward.
